Neurons excitable cells specialised for reception of stimuli and
conduction of impulse. There are the few general Characteristics of
Neurons:
- Excitability: each neuron is responsiveness to
a stimulus which causes change in cell’s membrane potential
- Conductivity: neurons have ability to conduct
and propagate electrical signal. They have Voltage-gated channels
along membrane open sequentially and help in conduction of impulse
from one site to other site.
- Secretion: Neurons releases neurotransmitter
in response to impulse recieved on conduction. A chemical Messenger
is released from vesicle to bind on target cell and produces it's
response.
- Extreme longevity: neurons
cell can live throughout person’s lifetime, if there is no tissue
damage.
