Chief complaints : pain in the gums, increasing of their
bleeding, mobility of individual teeth, bad breath starting 3 days
ago.
Objective examination: clear bright flushed, acutely swollen gums,
periodontal pockets, bare cervical teeth, mobile teeth.
Xray reveals diffuse osteoarthritis, nterdental partitions to 1/3
of their height
These finds suggest that the patient is having a gum infection
affecting the periodontum known as periodontitis.
Treatment for periodontitis is :
1. brush twice daily and maintain oral hygiene
2. Gumline cleaning through root surface instrumentation.
3. use of mouthwash and gels containing chlorhexidine, minocycline
and enzyme suppresants such as doxycycline is prescribed.
