The name Starling has two important connotations in physiology. Explain the essence of both phenomena (or maybe laws, principles, organs, etc.) associated with Ernest Starling, one sentence for each. (For example: The fifth law of Starling states that if an animal lives in water, it is wet)
Ernest Starling has 2 major contributions in the field of physiology. They are
1. Starling law - which states that the force of contraction of the myocardial cells is directly proportional to the initial length or stretch of the myocardial cells
2. Starling forces - these are the hydrostatic and osmotic forces that act at the blood vessels and the interstitial fluid. The interplay between these forces will cause the filtration at the capillary end
Hope this helps... Thank you!!!
