Uvula is small grapes like structure hangs above the throat and just beneath the soft palate of mouth.It is made up of muscles and connective tissue. It is filled with large quantities of saliva ,which helps in the maintaining lubricantion in the throat area results into high quality uvulval speech articulation.(

As their location in the back of throat, it also protects the upward movement of food particles during eating means they protects food particles movement into the nasal area and provide safe movement of food downwards through closer of nasopharynx part with soft palate and uvulal movement.

It also have immunological function that provides normally throats pathogen free.It is not a vital organs because after surgical removal ,we can live without it.In some person it causes snoring,apnea etc.
