What are the major functions of the following: meninges, cerebrospinal fluid, spinal cord, brainstem, cerebellum, cerebrum, thalamus, hypothalamus, pineal gland, optic chiasma, and the hormone melatonin?

Answer :- Meninges is the external covering of the brain that Protect the brain from injury .

-cerebrospinal fluid act as shock absorber for the central nervous system and provide nutrition to the CNS.

-Spinal cord Transmit nerve impulses to and from the brain.

-Brain Stem controls breathing and heart rate.

-cerebellum helps in the balance,  coordinate muscle movement and communication.

-Cerebrum is responsible for memory, reasoning and judgement.

-Thalamus is responsible for relaying of motor and sensory signals to cerebral cortex.

-Hypothalamus is responsible for Homeostasis to mainly aim temperature, circadian rhytms, eating, arousal, thirst .

-Pineal gland secrete melatonin that coordinate circardian rhythms (day- night cycles).

-optic chiasm splits each half of sight from right eye.
