Can you explain the nature of positive feedback that produces an action potential (such as: A increases B and B, in turn, increases A)?
Answer :)
A positive feedback mechanism is the milk feeding of a child. In this Oxytocin hormone activates more release of oxytocin. This hormone is produced by the hypothalamus and released by the posterior pituitary gland. As a baby pulls milk from the breast of the mother, the stimulation causes oxytocin to secrete into the blood. The positive feedback starts here when a secreted oxytocin is also motivating the release of more oxytocin. This happens through the initiation of action potentials through the thoracic intercostal nerves T3-T5. Each time when a baby touch, or sucks the milk from breasts, these nerves stimulate the hypothalamus to produce more oxytocin.
