Homework Answers

Answer #1

A) The foetus is facing Rh incompatibility due to Rh positive mother and the Rh negative baby. The Rh negative mother develops the antibodies against the Rh positive fetus when the maternal blood is exposed to foetus blood.

This Antibody formation in mother leads to phagocytic activity on child's RBC's hence the baby develops erythroblastosis fetalis. Which includes jaundice and anemia due to destruction of fetal RBC'S.

b)RBC has a lifespan of 120 days after which aged RBC's are removed from circulation through phagocytosis which takes place in liver where it is disintegrated.
