Discuss whether the following 3 types of vaccines are humoral or cellular immunity or both and why.
a. live attenuated
b. inactivated
c. DNA
Inactivated |
humoral immunity. Vaccine consisting of virus particles bacteria that have grown in culture and then lose disease producing capacity. |
Live attenuated |
Cellular immunity. it is vaccine created by reducing the virulence of a pathogen but still keeping it viable . Infectious agent is attenuated and becomes harmless . |
DNA |
Both cellular and humoral immunity. plasmid DNA encoding antigenic proteins injected directly into muscle of recipient . The muscle cells and dendritic cells in area take up DNA and encoded protein antigen is expressed. So both humoral and cell mediate response. |
