explain how peripheral nerve stimulation is able to bring about a change in electrical potential across the front and back skin surface of the hand and foot
All kinds of nerves and cells have a membrane potential across their membrane. They have the ability to produce iuniform electrical signals called action potentials that are tansmitted along the membranes and the extensions of nerves. A decrease in the potential difference across the membrane stimulates and action potential aong the nerve fibre. To depolarize the nerve membrane from the outside, the negative polarity of the stimulus replaces the positive charge from outside the membrane. This way the impulses are propogated along the nerve fibres. Peripheral nerve stimulation induce electrical potential and thus in the similar way causes changes in the electrical potential.
