Adrenal medulla is a part of sympathetic system. The stimulation of adrenal medulla by sympathetic neurones leads to the production of catecholamines.

The catecholamines produced from the adrenal medulla are epinephrine known as adrenaline and norepinephrine. They are emergency hormones. Whenever body face a situation of emergency it sis stimulated by the sympathetic neurone. The action on this hormones on the heart increase heart rate, pupil dilation, decrease salivary secretion, strengthen muscles, decrease gastric motility etc. For example if a dog ran after us fear builds in our mind and the sympathetic stimulation leads to production of this hormones. The hormones helps us run as faster as we can than our normal speed.
