What is the monomer for each macromolecule?(carbohydrate, protein, lipid, & nucleic acid)

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer

The monomers for each macromolecule are :

  1. Carbohydrate -- Glucose , others are fructose and galactose

  2. Protein -- Amino acids

  3. Lipids -- Glycerol and fatty acids

  4. Nucleic acid -- Phosphate, Pentose sugar, Nitrogenous base

- These nutrients are ingested in their complex form and cannot be absorbed directly into blood stream.

- They are broken down by digestive enzymes in different regions of gastrointestinal tract into monomers.

- Monomers are absorbed into bloodstream and provide energy for metabolic processes.

You are given five test tubes containing purified biological macromolecules. The test tubes are unlabeled except for a number between 1 and 4. You are told that one test tube contains a protein, one contains a lipid, one contains a carbohydrate, and one contains a nucleic acid. You then perform some tests on the macromolecules and collect the following information that needs to be matched the type of macromolecule it most likely is in the tube. 1) Test tubes #2...
