recognize the pigments of the skin and its functions

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Melanin, carotene and hemoglobin are the main skin pigments.

Melanin is produced by the melanocytes in the skin. In response to the UV radiation they are produced to keep the DNA of the integument safe from getting damaged. Melanin gives the shade of the skin. More melanin content makes the skin appear darker and less melanin makes the skin appear brighter.

Carotenes play a good role in neutralization of the free radicals on the skin. They are good anti oxidant agents and destroy the free radicals mainly the oxygen species ROS.

Hemoglobin is responsible for a pinkish tone in the skin. The variation in it provides the different skin tones along with the melanin

The algebraic independence of some functions delimits some categories of functions. Knowing how to recognize when a function is algebraic or not helps in some mathematical manipulations, such as derivation. In view of the knowledge about algebraic functions, analyze the following statements: I. Algebraic functions are those defined only by basic algebra operations. II. There are explicit non-algebraic functions. III. The transcendent functions are algebraic functions. IV. f (x) = ln (x) is not an algebraic function. Only what is...

Part A: The MC1R (melanocortin 1 receptor) gene is responsible for normal pigmentation of skin in humans and controls which kind of melanin is made by skin cells, eumelanin and/or pheomelanin. Melanin serves as a cover for the cells so harmful UV rays cannot reach the nucleus and cause mutation, but also protects folate, a type of B vitamin essential in growth and metabolism. However, there are two sides to this story: exposure to sunlight is required to convert calcium...
