State three ways by which the concentration of a protein in a cell can be regulated?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Three ways by which the concentration of a protein in a cell can be regulated by

1.some proteins are regulated by the non covalent binding of small molecules such as amino acids or nucleotides. This cause a change in the conformation of protein and thus the activity is protein can be regulated.

2.some proteins are regulated by interactions among polypeptides making up the proteins .some times the interactions may be between proteins and other proteins of the cell .

3. Some proteins are regulated by phosphorylation of specific amino acids on specific proteins. Phosphorylation means the addition of phosphate groups . This phosphorylation is reversible.

mRNA translation can be regulated in eukaryotes to either increase or decrease the translation of a mRNA. Two proteins eIF2 and eIF4B are central in this process. Detail how these proteins are regulated (mechanisms) and what is the outcome of this regulation (i.e. state regulatory condition and if that state either increases or decreases overall translation of mRNAs in the cell).
