Briefly describe how NMDA and AMPA receptors work together to produce a postsynaptic response, and how NMDARs are involved in coincidence detection .
NMDA and AMPA/kainate receptors. (A)
NMDA and the AMPA plays a vital role in postsynaptic response
both of these have a gutamate binding site and mg+ binding pores
and if the response is to be blocked the mg2+ ion channels helps in
blocking of receptors. Ca2+ has a major role in the activation and
mg2+ has a major role in blocking the response. The positive charge
flow into it when the glycine and glutamate bind to the receptors
and activate it there bay leading to influx of positive ions and
bringing about a postsynaptic response
NMDARs involvement in coincidence detection
They are an important substance required for coincidence detection , memory and learning in CNS. And synaptic plasticity. It works by voltage gated mg2+ block of NMDARs which allow the function of the coincidence detection that is the ,Hebbian coincidence detector
