Explain how local oedema in the lungs can develop from inflammation.
Answer :)
Bronchial edema or pulmonary edema is caused due to accumulation of watery fluid in the lungs. This accumulation of watery fluid occurs through inflammation too. Direct injury to the alveolar epithelium or microvascular barrier, infectious diseases causing parenchymal inflammation, and systemic inflammation cause parenchymal edema. These types of inflammation do dysfunction of tight junctions (TJs) between epithelial cells and hence permeability to water and proteins increases in this area. This is key responsible for the formation and prolongation of lung edema.
