Impulse is transmitted from 1 neuron to another across synapse.
synapse it a junction between axon of 1 neuron (which forms presynaptic membrane) and dendrites of another(post synaptic membrane).
impulse always travels from axon to dendrite , never in opposite direction.
when impulse reaches presynaptic membrane , the calcium ion influx occurs which causes fusion of vescicles with presynaptic membrane and hence release of neurotransmitter at synapse.
these neurotransmitters binds with receptors on post synaptic membrane and causes inhibition/excitation of postsynaptic membrane depending on the type of neurotransmitter.
later , the neurotransmitters get destroyed at synaptic cleft by their respective enzymes.
