Outline the major mechanisms that are responsible for the increase in VO2max that occurs after chronic aerobic / endurance training (5 points)
Chronic aerobic training makes out heart fit and healthy. Pumping capacity of heart increases. This increase the rate of flow of blood and blood volume also increases. These all will eventually cause more supply of oxygen to cells leading to increased VO2max.
VO2 max is the maximum rate at which our body is consuming oxygen.
Doing exercise also cause increase mitochondria in blood and also make blood hemoglobin rich. Both these increases oxygen carrying capacity which leads to increase VO2max
