1. Why is the presence of a larger than normal number of neutrophils indicative of an infection? Explain your answer.
2. Why would you not expect to see tissue macrophages in a blood smear? Explain your answer
1. Neutrophils are type of white blood cells . Their number increased during bacterial or fungal infections because they promote clearance through phagocytosis , production of reactive nitrogen and oxygen species and helps to heal damaged tissues and decrease infections
2. Macrophages are the modified monocytes . Monocytes circulate in the blood for 1-3 days before going to tissues , in tissues these monocytes modify into tissue macrophages so these tissue macrophages are exclusively present in the tissues but not in blood so in blood smear they are not visible .
