What do you think happens if someone has a benign tumor of the parathyroid gland and produces too much of parathyroid hormone (PTH)? What happens to his/her bones? Explain.
Dear Student,
* It was given that parathyroid glands produces too much of parathyroid hormones (PTH) due to benign tumor.
This condition is called Hyperparathyroidism.
When there is excessive production of parathyroid hormone, it increases Osteoclastic activity and decreases Osteoblastic activity (i.e., increased bone resorption and decreased bone formation).
So there will be bone loss in these patients making bones thin and susceptible to fracture (Osteoporosis).
Hope you are clear...
