1) Compare the fate of Pyruvate in aerobic and anaerobic cell respiration
2) Explain how much ATP is produced in oxidative phosphorylation and where in the pathway it comes from
1.The pyruvate is generated by glycolysis process in aerobic respiration.
Then pyruvate is converted into Acetyl CoA and it enters citric acid cycle.
Citric acid cycle is the series of events occurs in the presence of oxygen.
Citric acid cycle consumes two water molecules and produces two carbon dioxide molecules and one ATP.
Anaerobic respiration is the process of respiration occurs without oxygen
In this process cells uses electron receptosr instead of oxygen molecule.
2.Citric acid also produces NADH which enters oxidative phosphorylation and gives 3 ATP , where as NADH 2 produces 2 ATP.
Totally a pair of pyruvate produces 34 ATP molecules (17from each pyruvate).
This process is called aerobic respiration.
