The metacarpal bone of middle finger is called the third metacarpal. It articulates with the capitate(carpal bone) to form carpometacarpal joint and articulates with phalanges to form metacarpophalangeal joint

  1. It is slightly smaller than the 2nd metacarpal
  2. It has a pyramidal projection on its radial side at the dorsal aspect of base - Styloid process
  3. The articular facet is flat in front and concave behind.
  4. It articulates with the capitate at the articular facet
  5. It has 2 oval small articular facets on the ulnar side which is for 4th metacarpal
