length of ribs 8- 12 ( do they increase or decrease in length?)

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Ribs are long curved bones which form the rib cage, part of the axial skeleton.

There are 12 pairs of ribs(24 bones) attach posteriorly to the thoracic vertebrae.

The first seven sets of ribs are attached to the sternum by the costal cartilage.these are called "True ribs".

The next three pairs of ribs are not join at sternum directly but are connected to seventh rib by cartilage.these ribs are called "False ribs".

The last two pairs of ribs are called "Floating ribs" ,attached to sternum. These are less stable and risk breaking because they have only one attachment dorsally to the vertebrae and have Very thin bone tissue locked in the muscle as they extend laterally.

The length of ribs (8-12) are decrease in length.
