Three components of axial skeleton are the skull,vertebral column and thorax.

It consists of 80 bones which consists of skull bones,ossicles of middle ear,hyoid bone,the rib cage,sternum and the vertebral column

Functions:

Axial skeleton supports and protects the brain,spinal cord and many of the internal organs.

It also provides sites for attachments of muscles and bones in the body and protects nerves and blood vessels

Function of each:

skull: protects brain

vertebral column: protects spinal cord

thorax: rib cage protects lungs,heart and some blood vessels
