How will cooling the heart down effect heart rate and contraction and state the physiological reasoning behind this (good reasoning and explanation please).

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Cooling the heart down results in decreased heart rate and contraction.

Reason–

-Ion channels and enzymes both are proteins which also cool down along with heart.

-Cooling decreases the rate at which channels open and close and hence decreases the pacemaker activity and heart rate.

-as the rate of opening and closing of channels decreases it moves it further from reaching the threshold so that the action potential and heart contractions takes place at slower rate.

Hope this helps!!

We are going to test the effect of slight exercise on heart rate. It is well known that if you moderately exercise your heart rate will increase. However this increase could be different for different individuals based on age and how physically fit they are. For this activity you are going to measure the change in the heart rate of individuals you have slightly exercised. Please use extreme caution with this activity and only select individuals that are able to...

PART 1: A physiologic explanation for the observed effect of exercise on heart rate would be the following: (select the correct bold-faced options) Exercise-induced ["parasympathetic", "sympathetic"] stimulation to the ["autorhythmic", "contractile"] cells of the SA node ["increases", "decreases"] the permeability of the muscle cell membrane to ["potassium", "calcium", "sodium", "both calcium and sodium"] ions, bringing the membrane to threshold at a more rapid pace. Enzyme Kinetics Please explain reasoning for answers. How does the [S] affect the rate of an enzymatic reaction? Why don’t enzyme catalyzed rates increase linearly with [S]? How will Km (Michaelis Constant) it affect the rate of an enzymatic reaction? What will it change on the hyperbolic curve? Why is the kcat/Km ratio a superior way to compare one enzyme to another as compared to either of the two constants alone? What happens to the Michaelis-Menten equation when [S] <<...

It turns out that the effect of a change in the savings rate on the steady-state consumption is ambiguous. Let's try to show this with the power of algebra! Let A=2, L=100, and d=1/4 but do not pick a value for s. Solve for the steady-state values of K, Y and C by just leaving an "s" in there. This means that you will get functions of s as your answer! You should be able to look at K*(s) and...
