A) Oxygen consumption rate is a good indicator of metaboic rate because oxygen is required for aerobic metabolism, the amount of oxygen that an animal consumes can be considered a measure of their metabolic rate The amount of energy produced for the four types of food is roughly proportional to the amount of oxygen use., so that the metabolic rate can be measured by measuring the rate of oxygen consumption on the average an adult at rest consumes about 16 litres of oxygen per hour.
