Respiratory reserve is the volume of lungs which include both inspiratory reserve volume (IRV) and expiratory reserve volume (ERV).

INSPIRATORY RESERVE VOLUME (IRV):
It is the volume of air that is inhaled through the forced inspiration above the normal tidal inspiration.
IRV of healthy lungs is about 3100ml in males and 2800ml in females.
EXPIRATORY RESERVE VOLUME (ERV):
It is the volume of air that is inhaled through the forced expiration above the normal tidal inspiration.
ERV of healthy lungs is about 1200ml in males and 700ml in females.
