Answer #1

Thymus is the site of maturation for T-cells which are the components of cell mediated immunity that allows for protection against most of the infecting pathogens. Children born without a thymus must be kept in germ free environment as their immune system is incapable of dealing with infections from pathogens due to lack of mature T-cells. If T-cell function is disrupted, body will not be able to resist disease and in such cases, it may become fatal for the children without thymus to survive in normal surroundings riddled with germs.
