Is aldosterone secretion hormonal, humoral, or neural?
What is the name of the thing that regulates it?
Aldosterone is hormonal regulation.
Aldosterone is secreted from adrenal cortex. It causes
retention of sodium and water and thereby, increases
the ECF fluid volume and blood volume, leading to
increase in blood pressure. Thus, an increase in the
secretion of aldosterone increases the blood pressure
by increasing the blood volume .
Aldosterone is regulated by angiotensin II , via the renin angiotensin aldosterone pathway.
When there is decrease in blood pressure ,
angiotensin II stimulates the
adrenal cortex to secrete aldosterone. This
hormone increases reabsorption of sodium from
renal tubules. Sodium reabsorption is followed
by water reabsorption, resulting in increased ECF volume and blood
volume. It increases the
blood pressure to normal level .
