Question

where does acetylcholine bind in the neuromuscular junction

where does acetylcholine bind in the neuromuscular junction

Homework Answers

Answer #1
  • In neuromuscular junction , the terminal branch of the motor nerve fiber innervates one muscle fiber of the skeletal muscle.
  • When the action potential reaches the axon terminal, opening of voltage gated calcium channels occurs. Calcium ions enter thr axon terminal from extracellular fluid. Then the acetylcholine is released from the vesicles.
  • After release of the acetylcholine it enters into the synaptic cleft.
  • Synaptic cleft is the space between the presynaptic membrane and postsynaptic membrane.
  • And in the synaptic cleft the acetylcholine molecules bind with nicotinic receptors present in the postsynaptic membrane and forms a complex.
  • The answer is synaptic cleft for the given question.
