ASO Antistreptolysin ‘O’ Latex Test On what principle does the test work?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Anti streptolysin-O is the antibody against streptolysin which is caused by groups A, C and G of streptococci.. To determine strep infection, ASO test is done.

ASO latex agglutination is a simple test for the qualitative and semi-quantitative measurement of antibodies to Antistreptolysin-O in the human serum. This method is based on the principle of an immunological reaction between streptococcal exoenzymes confined to biologically inert latex particles and streptococcal antibodies in the sample taken. The reagent is to be adjusted in the manner that presence of an ASO titer of 200 IU/mL or even higher in the human serum gives a visible agglutination of latex particles.
