295 participants were surveyed to determine the attitude and use of ergogenic aids in high school students, of which 1% used steroids and 2% used amphetamines, and only a few would consider to use them in future. Of the male athletes, 32% believed in the effectiveness of steroids, and 14% would consider their use in future, compared against 13% and 0% of female athletes, respectively. Majority of the athletes believe that supplemental vitamins and proteins enhance performance with little or no side-effects, suggesting the need for educating young athletes regarding the potential risk and minimal benefit with the use of ergogenic aids.
