CRP stands for C-reactive protein.It is an acute phase reactant produced by the liver .It is increased in infections and other conditions of inflammation.

CRP latex test is based on the principle of latex agglutination.Latex particles are complexed to human anti-CRP and then patient's serum is added to it.If the serum contains CRP ; visible agglutination reaction can be seen within 2 minutes.

The test was introduced by Singer.The test is used in medical labs for detection acute inflammation; acute flare-up of chronic inflammatory conditions ; to monitor therapy and to check infections after surgery.
