Franco is rushed to the hospital after losing blood from a work relates accident. Because he was wearing a medical alert bracelet, the hospital staff knows he has A+ blood. If Franco has a coworker with AB+ blood, can she donate? Why or why not?
Dear Student,
No. Franco's coworker cannot give her AB+ blood for Franco, who is A+.
The reason is the AB+ blood group has both the antigens A and B in the red blood cells. But A+ blood group will be having A antigen in red blood cells and antiB antibody in the plasma.
So, when AB + blood is given to A+ blood group, the antiB antibodies present in the plasma of A+ blood reacts with the B antigens of AB + blood resulting in agglutination.
A+ blood group people can be given blood from donor having A+,O+ ,A- and O- blood groups.
(Here + and - signs represents the presence or absence of Rh antigen respectively)
Hope you are clear....??
