While driving Max was rear-ended by another vehicle, slammed his head into the steering wheel, and was knocked unconscious. When the paramedics finally woke him up, he could only see out of his right eye and could not see out of his left eye. What cranial nerve did Max most likely damage? Is this nerve primarily a sensory or motor nerve? And what is the primary function of this nerve?
1) Our visual is controlled by the optic nerve. From right eye one optic nerve goes to backside of brain and from left eye one optic nerve goes to the backside of brain. Now there is place in the brain where right eye optic nerve and left eye optic nerve cross each other, this is known as optic chiasma. So for this right eye optic nerve goes to the left side of the brain and left eye optic nerve goes to right side of the brain. So here damage occur in the right optic nerve of the brain because left eye is controlled by the right optic nerve. That is why Max is not able to see with his left eye. So he has injury in the brain right side.
2)optic nerve is a sensory nerve.
3) Optic nerve helps in vision.
