TRANSLATION: Describe the process of translation at the ribosome. Describe how ribosomal RNA, messenger RNA and transfer RNA all participate in the construction of a polypeptide chain. Explain what the signal recognition particle (SRP) of a newly formed protein will do.
Dear Student,
Translation is the process of translating the sequence from mRNA molecule to the aminoacid sequence during protein synthesis.
It occurs in the phases:
1) Initiation: The Ribosomes Assemble around the mRNA. Then the first tRNA gets attached to the start codon methionine.
2) Elongation : tRNA transfers the aminoacid to the next corresponding codon of tRNA and in the same way the process continues creating an amino acid chain.
3) Termination: The chain terminates when stop codon or nonsense codon is reached.
Ribosomes also contain rRNA used in translation process and it has 2 subunits namely 40S and 60S
* Signal recognition particle is a protein - RNA complex that recognizes and targets specific proteins to the endoplasmic reticulum in eukaryotes and to the plasma membrane in case of prokaryotes.
Hope you are clear...
