. In a paragraph briefly describe the brain circuitry responsible for the phenomenon of ‘blindsight’.
Blindsight - is a phenomenon in which a person with damage in primary visual cortex is able to process visual information in their blind visual field.
Brain circuitry-
The 2 pathways which bypass the primary visual cortex may be responsible for this vision.
1. Tetinotectal pathway - superior colliculus in midbrain recieves direct retinal signals and send them to extrastriate cortex through the pulvinar.
2. Geniculoextrastriate pathway - retinal knput to lateral geniculate body is sent straight to the extrastriate cortex.
And all this is because a reorganization in brain circuit occurs following the lesion of the primary visual cortex and its subsequent recovery.
