All of the following are functions of the sensory somatic nervous system except

it sends signals that control heat rate and respiration

it receives messages and relays stimulus to contract muscle fibers

it receives messages from the central nervous system

Homework Answers

Answer #1

d). it sends messages directly to muscles and glands

Somatic sensations arise in the cerebral cortex. In the sensory areas of cerebral cortex, the organization of inter-neurons corresponding to the body surface is present like a map. The peripheral sensory fibers cross at the spinal cord or brain stem and reach opposite sides of the brain. The somato-sensory neurons carry information from the periphery to the central nervous system, whereas the motor neurons send information to muscles and glands.
