It is the process of continuous, systematic collection, analysis and interpretation of health related data needed for planning, implementation and evaluation of public health practice.

Purposes if public health surveillance:-

  1. Serves as a early warning system for impending public health emergencies
  2. Provides data regarding health related events
  3. Documents the impact of public health services and intervention or track the progress towards goals
  4. Determines the epidemiology of several health problems, to allow priorities to be set.

How they implemented and used in communities, government agencies and health care organizations means

When there is an epidemics happens it uses surveillance to detect the magnitude of diseases and impact of it on the public.
