First of all we should know what adaptation is .Adaptation refers to the change by which a living being gets better suited for a particular environment type .Dysplasia simply means the change in size, shape and structural organisation of a cell .its not considered as a true adaptive process as it is related to hyperplasia ,it occurs in cervical and respiratory tract epithelial tissue ,Examples include breast cancer. Hyperplasia refers to increased cell number because of rapid cell division.

I am a little confused about cellular changes (atrophy, hypertrophy, etc). According to my study guide (Gould's pathophysiology for Health professions, the thyroid gland's response to hypersecretion of thyroid-stimulating hormone is metaplasia, dysplasia and neoplasia. While this makes sense, why does the liver's response to prolonged drug intoxication result in hyperplasia and not the same result as the thyroid? I have the answers because they're in the back of the book, but what I don't understand is why.

Citric acid cycle provides intermediates essential for cellular biosynthesis, thus also considered to be an anabolic process. The citric acid cycle intermediate succinyl-CoA can be used to synthesize porphyrins. In order to achieve the net synthesis of succinyl-CoA from pyruvate, what reactions and enzymes in the citric acid cycle and anaplerotic pathways are required.
