If there's a blockage in a blood vessel and the frequency of heart rate increase, what physiological implications would this cause? would it be good or bad or indifferent?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

This physiological response will be good. Due to blockage in the blood vessel, the peripheral resistance to blood flow increases that increases the resistance to blood flow. As a result, the stroke volume pumped by the heart would tend to decrease due to opposition of the resistance. this will tend to decrease the cardiac output. But order to mainain cardiac output, heart rate increases to fulfil the demands of the tissue.

Cardiac output = Stroke volume x heart rate
