Answer #1

Recombinant allergens can be used to perform diagnostic tests in diseases like asthma or allergic rhinitis such as skin prick tests. The most common allergen reported being house dust mite. So based on genetic engineering a recombinant allergen is produced which is similar to natural mite allergen in properti and used to do diagnostic tests.

As far as treatment is concerned it is based on principle of hyposensitization in which recombinant allergen is given in gradually increasing doses to help develop tolerance in individual and suppress IgE production. But one of drawbacks is this process take time atleast a year is taken to show signs of improvement.
