2. Maintenance of blood pressure is an example of a negative feedback mechanism. Provide a discussion of blood
pressure maintenance, and the mechanisms involved. Your answer must include the sensors, integrators, and at
least heart rate and vessel diameter as examples of effectors.
Dear Student,
In negative feedback mechanism, any deviation from the normal is function is opposed.
Generally a negative feedback mechanism has a negative feedback loop comprising of receptor, control center and effector.
Blood pressure maintainance occurs by negative feedback mechanisms Such as Renin-Angiotensin system, Arterial Baroreceptor reflexes, etc.
The receptors in the blood vessels detect whenever there is an increase in the blood pressure by sensing the resistance of the blood flow in the bloodvessels. These receptors sends this information to the control center i.e., Brain. The brain then send message to the effects, i.e., the heart and the bloodvessels. This causes the heart rate to decrease and the diameter of the vessels increases resulting in the fall of the blood pressure and vice-versa.
Hope you are clear and if you have any doubts feel free to ask.
