You want to take a long, cool drink of sweater, but something you learned in anatomy and physiology stops you from drinking and saves your life! Why shouldn’t you drink sweater? (i need more Explain in details)
Thank You..
We have to understand the process of osmosis to answer this question .
Osmosis is the movement of water molecules from a less concentrated solution to a more concentrated solution .
We have to remember that the salinity of the water ( hence the concentration ) is more than 4 times that of blood . This is due to high concentration of sodium and chloride ions in the sea water , which makes it salty .
When we drink sea water , we might think it will bring down the thirst of water . But the high concentration of salts in the sea water causes the water to leave the circulation and move outside the body , by the osmotic effect .
This means , more water is lost in this process . Until there is availability of fresh water , this dehydration will grow which can even lead to coma or death .
