Which of the following is not found at the axonal terminal - Neurotransmitter, Golgi Apparatus, Mitochondria or Synaptic Vesicle?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Golgi apparatus is not found at the axon terminal.

At the end of an axon , axon terminal is present which is a button like structure, whose function is to provide synapse between nerve cells.

Axon terminals have specialised chemicals called neurotransmitter which help in transmitting signals across a chemical synapse. They are contained within synaptic vesicle initially. Synaptic vesicle are membrane bound vesicle which contain neurotransmitter.

Mitochondria are also present at the axon terminal , it helps in synaptic function by the production of ATP.

When an action potential reaches the axon terminal, what is the proper order of events in which exocytosis of the neurotransmitter takes place? A. Ligand-gated Na+ channels open and Na+ rushes into the axon terminal; Na+ binds with synaptotagmin and together they activate the SNARE/vesicle complex, which docks and allows the neurotransmitter-filled vesicle to be exocytosed. B. Voltage-gated Na+ channels open and Na+ rushes into the axon terminal; Na+ binds with synaptotagmin and together they activate the SNARE/vesicle complex, which...

When depolarization reaches the axon terminal, describe the events that lead to neurotransmitter release into the synaptic cleft. Be sure to include the: types of channels (full channel names!) what triggers the channels to open what ions move through the channel process that results in releases neurotransmitter into the synaptic cleft You may include a diagram if you like (not required), but be sure to describe your diagram.
