How is action potential generated in the heart?

How is action potential generated in the heart?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Action potential is generated by the SA node in the heart which act as pacemaker cells.

This action potential is generated spontaneously by SA node where spontaneous discharge occurs due to funny current. This funny current is due to opening of funny sodium channels that creates pacemaker potetial which akes the membrane potential towards threshold. As soon as the potential touches the threshold, long lasting Ca channels open resulting in dpeolarization and thereby generation of action potential
