ANSWER :

The extracellular matrix of a typical connective tissue like muscle consists of ground substance & some protein fibres. The ground substance has water as main component ordinary and collagen fibres (inelastic) are major fibres with some elastic fibres.

There are several functions of extracellular matrix in a connective tissue like structural integrity, strength and proliferation etc. according to presence of these in different places in the body.
