What is the difference between the lamellae and the canaliculi
Answer
Difference between the lamellae and the canaliculi
Lamellae
Lamellae are concentric
circles that surround the central canal in bone.
There are 3 types of lamellae, circumferential, concentric and
interstitial.
Lamellae consist of small spaces or holes called lacunae.
Canaliculi
Canaliculi are cellular, cytoplasmic extensions of
osteocytes.
Canaculi are small canals that connects lacunae together within the
bone.
Canaliculi provide routes by which nutrients can reach the
osteocytes and waste products are removed.
