A disease is a particular abnormal condition that negatively affects the structure or function of part or all of an organism. Diseases are often associated with specific signs and symptoms. A disease can be caused by pathogens or internal dysfunctions.

There are four main types of disease: infectious disease, deficiency diseases, hereditary diseases and physiological diseases. Diseases can also be classified as communicable versus non communicable.

The study of diseases is called pathology.
