what is the mechanism of action of dorzolamid in treatment of glaucoma ?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Dorzolamide is non bacteriostatic sulphonamide derivative and topical carbonate unhydrase (CA) inhibitor that treats elevated inttaocular pressure associated with open angle glaucoma .It works by blocking an enzyme in the ciliary process that regulates ion balance and fluid pressure in eyes.Unlike oral CA inhibitor Dorzolamide has neglegible effects of acid -base or electrolyte destrubance and other adverse effects.

Hence Dorzolamide block carbonic unhydrase thereby secretion of fluid and intraocular pressure ,this reduces risk of nerve damage and loss of vision .
