Carpal tunnel is situated at volar wrist.
1. Roof - flexor retinaculum ligament
Floor- formed by carpal bones
Walls- formed by carpal bone. On lateral side, scaphoid and trapezium tubercles and on medial side by hook of hamate and pisiform
2. Content of carpal tunnel
It contains total 9 tendons and median nerve.
Tendons are- flexor pollicis longus, 4 tendons of flexoe digitorum profundus and 4 tendons of flexor digitorum superficialis.
3. Carpal tunnel surgery
Carpal tunnel syndrome is when compression of median nerve inside tunnel. Which is caused by thickened ligaments and tendon sheaths. Patients can experience numbness,tingling and pain in distribution of median nerve and radiating pain to the forearm. Carpel tunnel surgery is decompression suregry. During surgery, transverse carpal ligament is cut, which releases pressure build up on median nerve thus gets relieved from symptoms.
